A classroom based training session

As Duddridge Wine Associates, an Approved Programme Provider and certified educator for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), I provide the following professional courses:

WSET Level 1 Award in Wines

This is for front line staff involved in the service or sale of wine and who know very little about the subject. As an introduction to wine it provides very basic knowledge as well as looking at how to pair food with wine.

The course can be taught over one working day of 6 hours or extended to 9 hours and completed the following day. It concludes with an examination comprised of 30 multiple-choice questions.

Students must pass the examination to gain the qualification.

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is the ideal course for beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of wines as well as those seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines. It is ideal for wine enthusiasts and wine professionals alike. Students gain knowledge on the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown and the styles of wine they produce. Through a mix of tasting and theory students explore the factors that impact the style and quality of wine and learn how to describe such wine in a professional and confident manner.

There are 9 x 2 hour classes followed by an examination comprised of 50 multiple-choice questions. Tasting takes place in the first 8 classes following the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting Level 2.

Students must pass the examination (55% minimum pass mark) to gain the qualification.

WSET Level 3 Award in Wines

This course provides a more comprehensive coverage of the wide range of wines from around the world; it is much more in-depth than Level 2 and it is recommended that students pass the Level 2 exam before studying this course. There is an increased focus on wine tasting technique, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach, which takes up much class time with student participation encouraged.

There are 17 classes, each lasting 2.5 hours, followed by exams: a blind tasting exam of 2 wines, a multiple-choice paper of 50 questions and a short written answer paper.

Students must pass each section to gain the qualification.
